“As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love.” (Jn. 15:9, ESV)
Have you ever thought about how much the Father loves the Son? Take some time to do that now. Use your imagination to picture the Father and the Son. Perhaps you would like to imagine them enjoying one another during the days of creation. Or maybe you’d like to think about what the Father was thinking and feeling during Jesus’ baptism when He said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy” (Mt. 3:17, NLT). Don’t hurry through this reflection. Let your heart enter fully and hear the Father’s love for Jesus. You may want to jot down some of the impressions you receive.
Now think about how much Jesus loves you. He says He loves you the very same way the Father loves Him! Take your time to try to get your head and heart around how incredibly loved you are. Bask in this love. Let it permeate your soul.
If you were able to really trust in Jesus’ incredible love for you, to “abide in His love,” how would your life be different? How might His deep and constant love affect your tendencies toward worry, perfectionism, fear, control, depression, (or whatever your tendencies are)? Talk to Jesus about this. Share your longings, doubts, joy, gratitude, fears—however this reflection hits you, share these impressions with Him. Ask Him to help you trust in His love and to be transformed by it.
